스데반의 설교
행6:10-15
초대 교회의 경전은 모세의 율법과 선지자들의 예언 곧 구약이었습니다. 또 사도들이 보고 듣고 생생히 체험한 그리스도의 복음과 오순절의 성령 체험은 능력 있는 복음을 증언하게 해주었습니다. 중요한 것은 그리스도 복음 안에서 신구약의 경전이 어떻게 연결을 이루느냐 하는 것입니다. 구약은 이스라엘 민족의 역사이고 신약은 그리스도의 복음과 교회라는 점이 대조를 이루고 있습니다. 성령 충만한 스데반 집사의 마지막 증언에서 신구약의 관계를 특히 유의해야 할 줄 압니다.
1. 지혜와 성령으로 전하는 복음
"스데반이 지혜와 성령으로 말함을 그들이 능히 당하지 못하여"(10절).
성령의 지혜와 성령의 능력을 당할 자는 없습니다. 이는 하나님의 미련한 것이 인간의 지혜보다 나을 뿐 아니라 하나님의 약한 것이 인간의 강한 것보다 월등하기 때문입니다. 성령 충만한 베드로를 보십시오. 평소에는 그가 학문이 없는 범인으로 알았으나 오순절 사건 이후 그 속에서 터져 나오는 능력의 말씀 앞에 모두가 거꾸러지고 말았던 것입니다. 그러므로 우리는 복음을 증언하기 위해 성령 충만, 지혜 충만한 성도가 되시기를 소원합니다.
2. 스데반을 박해한 이유
성전과 모세의 율법을 부정한다는 이유에서였습니다. 유대인들은 스데반을 모세와 하나님을 훼방한다고 하여 백성과 장로와 서기관들을 충동하여 스데반을 종교 재판 곧 공회에서 재판을 받게 하였습니다.
그들이 고소한 내용이 무엇입니까
1) 나사렛 예수가 성전을 허물 것이라
2) 모세가 전해 준 계명을 변개하려 한다.
다시 말씀드리면 성전을 부정하고 모세의 율법을 부정한다는 것입니다. 이것이 사실이라면 스데반은 이스라엘의 모든 역사를 부정하는 것이므로 중대사가 아닐 수 없습니다.
이스라엘 민족의 특징은 하나님의 선택받은 백성이라는 것입니다. 그것을 증언하는 것이 모세의 율법입니다. 이렇게 율법은 중요합니다. 또 율법에 의해 이룩된 것이 성전입니다. 그러므로 성전을 부정한다는 것은 곧 하나님의 말씀을 부정하는 것으로 받아들여질 수밖에 없었습니다. 그러나 우리가 깨달아야 할 것은 그림자는 실체가 등장하면 그 의미가 사라진다는 것입니다. 솔로몬의 성전이 진정한 천국이 될 수 있을까요? 그럴 수 없습니다.
"지극히 높으신 이는 손으로 지은 곳에 계시지 아니하시나니"(행7:48).
뿐만 아니라 성전을 봉헌한 솔로몬도,
"하늘과 하늘들의 하늘이라도 주를 용납하지 못하겠거든 하물며 내가 건축한 이 성전이오리이까"(왕상8:27) 하였습니다.
"너희가 이 성전을 헐라 내가 사흘 동안에 일으키리라”(요2:19).
이는 사십육 년 동안에 지은 헤롯의 성전이 아니라 그리스도의 몸을 두고 하신 말씀입니다. 사실 그리스도가 없는 이스라엘 역사라면 무의미할 뿐입니다. 그러므로 솔로몬의 성전뿐만 아니라 이스라엘 역사에서도 실체로 오신 그리스도를 영접하지 않으면 그들이 선택받은 의미도 사라지는 것입니다.
"참 빛 곧 세상에 와서 각 사람에게 비추는 빛이 있었나니 그가 세상에 계셨으며 세상은 그로 말미암아 지은바 되었으되 세상이 그를 알지 못하였고 자기 땅에 오매 자기 백성이 영접하지 아니하였으나"(요 1:9-11).
이스라엘 백성들은 율법주의로 인해 실체로 오신 그리스도를 배역하는 죄를 범했습니다.
2) 모세의 율법
모세의 율법은 하나님께서 모세에게 명하신 말씀입니다. 그러므로 이 율법은 가감이 허용될 수 없는 진리입니다.
"너희 중에 선지자나 꿈꾸는 자가 일어나서 이적과 기사를 네게 보이고 그가 네게 말한 그 이적과 기사가 이루어지고 너희가 알지 못하던 다른 신들을 우리가 따라 섬기자고 말할지라도 너는 그 선지자나 꿈꾸는 자의 말을 청종하지 말라 이는 너희의 하나님 여호와께서 너희가 마음을 다하고 뜻을 다하여 너희의 하나님 여호와를 사랑하는 여부를 알려 하사 너희를 시험하심이니라 너희는 너희의 하나님 여호와를 따르며 그를 경외하며 그의 명령을 지키며 그의 목소리를 청종하며 그를 섬기며 그에게 의지하며 그런 선지자나 꿈꾸는 자는 죽이라 이는 그가 너희에게 너희를 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 내시며 종 되었던 집에서 속량하신 너희 하나님 여호와를 배반하게 하려하며 너희의 하나님 여호와께서 네게 행하라 명령하신 도에서 너를 꾀어내려고 말하였음이라 너는 이같이 하여 너희 중에서 악을 제할지니라"(신13:1-5).
이스라엘 백성들은 유일하신 하나님의 계명을 지키도록 선택을 받은 백성입니다. 그들에게 모세의 율법을 부정하라고 했다면 심각한 문제가 아닐 수 없지요. 그러나 그것은 성경을 잘못 해석한 것입니다. 그러므로 그들이 그리스도를 십자가에 못 박고 또 예수 믿는 성도들을 박해하였습니다. 주의하십시오. 우리는 성경을 바로 깨달아야 합니다. 주님께서 오신 목적은 모세의 율법이 잘못되었거나 솔로몬의 성전이 잘못되었기 때문이 아닙니다.
의사의 처방이 정확하여도 환자를 살려내지 못하면 효력이 없는 것같이 계명도 마찬가지입니다. 그래서 바울은 이 진리를 깨닫고 "법은 신령하나 나는 죄 가운데 있다"는 고백을 했습니다. 모세의 계명에 결함이 있어서 이스라엘이 망한 것이 아닙니다. 계명을 불이행한 것이 문제가 되는 것입니다. 진리를 사수하는 것이라면 당연하지만 진리를 잘못 해석하고 따를 때는 문제가 되는 것입니다.
이단은 하나님의 말씀을 잘못 해석하는 데 있습니다. 그러므로 조심해야 합니다. 진리에서 떠나 미혹되지 않도록 주의하십시오. 신앙은 전통이 중요합니다. 건실한 교단인가를 먼저 확인하고 하나님 기뻐하는 교회에 몸을 담아 충성하는 것이 복이 될 줄 믿습니다.
그러나 진리의 탈을 쓴 적그리스도가 있다는 것을 잊어서는 안 될 것입니다. 또 가장 정통적인 배경을 지닌 자가 쭉정이로 변할 수 있습니다. 사실 계명을 준행하였다면 주님같이 잘 지킨 사람이 없습니다. 주님은 율법으로 흠이 없기 때문입니다. 그런데 왜 주님께서 율법의 정죄를 받아야 했을까요?
초대 교회 사도들의 설교도 마찬가지입니다. 복음을 전한다고 해서 율법을 무시한 사람이 있었던가요? 오히려 구약을 배경으로 하여 진리를 증언했습니다. 스데반 역시 마찬가지입니다. 그는 모세의 율법을 깨뜨린 일이 없으며 솔로몬의 성전을 잘못이라 지적하지도 않았습니다. 다만 성전 제도에 그칠 것이 아니라 실체로 등장한 예수 그리스도의 복음을 받아들여야 한다고 증언한 것입니다. 그리스도는 율법을 폐지하신 것이 아니라 완성하셨습니다. 그러므로 율법을 바로 깨닫는 자는 그리스도를 영접하는 영광에 이를 줄 믿습니다.
3. 스데반의 설교
1) 아브라함의 약속
유대인들이 스데반을 고소한 죄목은 그가 모세와 하나님을 모욕했다는 것입니다. 그러나 그가 지혜와 성령이 충만하여 증언한 말씀은 그들이 자랑하는 믿음의 조상 아브라함부터 언급하였습니다.
"스데반이 이르되 여러분 부형들이여 들으소서 우리 조상 아브라함이 하란에 있기 전 메소보다미아에 있을 때에 영광의 하나님이 그에게 보여 이르시되 네 고향과 친척을 떠나 내가 네게 보일 땅으로 가라 하시니 아브라함이 갈대아 사람의 땅을 떠나 하란에 거하다가 그의 아버지가 죽으매 하나님이 그를 거기서 너희 지금 거하는 이 땅으로 옮기셨느니라"(행 7:2-4).
스데반 집사가 어떻게 이스라엘 역사를 그렇게 잘 알 수 있었는지 궁금하지 않습니까? 이것이 성령의 조명으로 증언한 말씀입니다.
스데반은 자기를 고소한 자들에게 “너희들이 이스라엘의 뿌리인 아브라함부터 시작되었고 그에게 세운 언약으로 가나안 땅에 거하게 되었다”고 하고 있습니다.
사도행전 7:5 이하에 보면 이 약속은 아브라함, 이삭, 야곱과 열두 조상의 혈통을 통해서 이어져 내려오고 있습니다. 여기서 특별한 것은 ‘할례의 언약’입니다. 아브라함이 이삭에게, 이삭은 야곱에게, 야곱은 열두 조상에게 행하므로 이는 단순한 혈통이 아니라 ‘언약의 혈통’임을 분명하게 밝히고 있습니다.
2) 출애굽 사건
또 모세의 등장과 그의 사역에 관한 말씀입니다. 이는 모세가 이스라엘 역사에서 차지하는 비중도 있겠으나, 특별히 스데반을 고소하는 것이 모세를 부정한다는 데 있었기 때문입니다.
모세가 등장한 배경을 보면 "사십 년이 차매"(7:30)라고 하였습니다. 모세를 통해 이루신 하나님의 구원은 아브라함에게 하신 언약의 성취입니다. 특히 사도행전 7:35 이하에는 이스라엘 사람들이 거부한 모세를 하나님께서 그 백성의 통치자 곧 구원자로 세우셨다고 하였습니다.
"그들의 말이 누가 너를 관리와 재판장으로 세웠느냐 하며 거절하던 그 모세를 하나님은 가시나무 떨기 가운데서 보이던 천사의 손으로 관리와 속량하는 자로서 보내셨으니 이 사람이 백성을 인도하여 나오게 하고 애굽과 홍해와 광야에서 사십 년간 기사와 표적을 행하였느니라"(행7:35-36).
스데반은 모세와 율법을 부인하는 것이 아니라 밝히 증언하였습니다.
4. 절정의 말씀
이렇게 모세에 대해 역사적인 사건을 밝히 증언하는 스데반을 그들은 모세를 부인하고 계명을 거역한다고 하였습니다. 중요한 것은 스데반이 여기서 자신을 변명하여 혐의를 벗으려고 하는 것이 아니라 유대인들이 박해하는 이 복음을 증언하는 전도자로서 목이 곧고 패역한 조상과 같이 지금도 진리를 대적하는 그들의 죄를 지적하여 회개를 촉구하고 있다는 것입니다.
"우리 조상들이 모세에게 복종하지 아니하고자 하여 거절하며 그 마음이 도리어 애굽으로 향하여 아론더러 이르되 우리를 인도할 신들을 우리를 위하여 만들라 애굽 땅에서 우리를 인도하던 이 모세는 어떻게 되었는지 알지 못하노라 하고 그때에 그들이 송아지를 만들어 그 우상 앞에 제사하며 자기 손으로 만든 것을 기뻐하더니"(행7:39-41).
과연 누가 심판받아 마땅할 죄인이요 우매한 백성입니까? 광야에서 쓰러진 그들의 조상이요, 오늘도 이 진리를 대적하는 유대인들이라 아니할 수 없습니다.
신앙의 타성을 조심하십시오. 잘못된 고정관념도 탈피해야 합니다. 신앙의 연조를 자랑하면서도 천국의 문을 가로막고 있는 사람은 없습니까? 회개해야 합니다.
"목이 곧고 마음과 귀에 할례를 받지 못한 사람들아 너희도 너희 조상과 같이 항상 성령을 거스르는도다 너희 조상들이 선지자들 중의 누구를 박해하지 아니하였느냐 의인이 오시리라 예고한 자들을 그들이 죽였고 이제 너희는 그 의인을 잡아준 자요 살인한 자가 되나니 너희는 천사가 전한 율법을 받고도 지키지 아니하였도다"(행 7:51-53).
이것은 하나님의 경고요, 성령의 책망입니다. 그런데도 유대인들은 완고하여 회개가 없었습니다.
"그들이 이 말을 듣고 마음에 찔려 그를 향하여 이를 갈거늘"(행7:54).
결국 스데반을 성 밖에 내치고 돌로 쳐 죽이므로 그들이 회개할 최후의 기회마저 잃고 말았습니다. 전도자 스데반의 외침 소리는 거기서 조용히 막을 내렸으나 그가 전한 복음은 영원한 진리입니다.
"주 예수여 내 영혼을 받으시옵소서 하고 무릎을 꿇고 크게 불러 이르되 주여 이 죄를 그들에게 돌리지 마옵소서 이 말을 하고 자니라"(행7:58-60).
순교자의 피는 살아 있습니다. 우리도 스데반과 같이 영광에 이르기를 기원합니다. 아멘
Stephen's Sermon
Acts 6:10-15
The scriptures of the early church were the Law of Moses and the prophecies of the prophets, the Old TestAment. Also, the gospel of Christ, which the apostles saw and heard and experienced vividly, and the experience of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, made it possible to testify to the powerful gospel. What is important is how the scriptures of the Old and New TestAments are connected in the Gospel of Christ. The contrast is that the Old TestAment is the history of the nation of Israel and the New TestAment is the gospel of Christ and the Church. In the last testimony of deacon Stephen, who was filled with the Holy Spirit, we know that we should pay special attention to the relationship between the Old and New TestAments.
1. The Gospel with Wisdom and the Holy Spirit
“They were not able to understand that Stephen spoke in wisdom and in the Holy Spirit” (verse 10).
No one can withstand the wisdom of the Holy Spirit and the power of the Holy Spirit. This is because not only is God's foolishness better than human wisdom, but God's weakness is superior to human strength. Look at Peter, who was filled with the Holy Spirit. Normally, I thought he was a criminal without learning, but after the incident of Pentecost, everyone was turned down by the words of power that came out of him. Therefore, we want you to become saints filled with the Holy Spirit and wisdom to testify to the Gospel.
2. Reasons for Persecuting Stephen
It was because they denied the Temple and the Mosaic Law. The Jews accused Stephen of blaspheming Moses and God, so they provoked the people, the elders, and the scribes to put Stephen to be tried in the Inquisition, or council.
what are they complaining about
1) Jesus of Nazareth will destroy the temple.
2) They try to change the commandments that Moses gave them.
In other words, he denies the temple and the law of Moses. If this is true, then Stephen is denying all the history of Israel, so it cannot be a serious matter.
The characteristic of the nation of Israel is that they are God's chosen people. It is the law of Moses that testifies to it. This is why the law is so important. Also, what was accomplished by the law is the temple. Therefore, denying the temple had to be accepted as denying the Word of God. But what we need to realize is that the shadow loses its meaning when the substance appears. Could Solomon's Temple be a true paradise? You can't.
“The Most High does not dwell in places made with hands” (Acts 7:48).
Not only Solomon, who dedicated the temple,
“If the heavens and the heavens of the heavens cannot accept you, how much more will this temple that I have built?” (1 Kings 8:27).
“Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up” (John 2:19).
This is not about Herod's temple built in forty-six years, but about the body of Christ. In fact, the history of Israel without Christ is meaningless. Therefore, not only in Solomon's temple but also in the history of Israel, if they do not receive Christ, who has come as a reality, the meaning of their selection will be lost.
“There was the true light, the light that came into the world and gave light to every man, who was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world did not know him; he came to his own land, and his people did not receive him” (John 1:9-11). ).
The people of Israel committed the sin of rebelling against Christ, who came in reality through legalism.
2) Mosaic Law
The Mosaic Law was God's command to Moses. Therefore, this law is a truth that cannot be added or subtracted.
“If a prophet or dreamer among you rises up and shows you signs and wonders, and the signs and wonders he spoke to you will come true and say that we should serve other gods of which you have not known, you shall not heed the words of the prophet or dreamer, for The LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your mind. Follow the LORD your God, fear him, keep his commands, obey his voice and serve him. Kill any prophet or dreamer who trusts in him, so that he may betray the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and ransom you from the house of bondage, and deceives you in the way the LORD your God commanded you to do. “In this way you shall remove evil from among you” (Deuteronomy 13:1-5).
The people of Israel were chosen to keep the commandments of the one and only God. If I told them to deny the Mosaic Law, it would be a serious problem. But that is a misinterpretation of the Bible. Therefore, they crucified Christ and persecuted the believers in Jesus. Be careful. We must understand the Bible right away. The Lord did not come because the law of Moses was wrong or Solomon's temple was wrong.
Even if a doctor's prescription is correct, it is of no effect if it does not save the patient, so are the commandments. So Paul realized this truth and confessed, "The law is spiritual, but I am in sin." Israel was not destroyed because Moses' commandments were flawed. Breaking the commandments is a problem. It is natural to defend the truth, but it becomes a problem when misinterpreting and following the truth.
Heresy consists in misinterpreting the Word of God. So be careful. Be careful not to be deceived from the truth. Faith is about tradition. I believe that it will be a blessing to first check whether it is a sound denomination and to be faithful to the church that pleases God.
However, we must not forget that there is an Antichrist in the disguise of truth. Also, someone with the most orthodox background can turn into a chaff. In fact, if you have kept the commandments, no one has kept them as well as the Lord. Because the Lord is without blemish in the law. But why did he deserve the Lord's condemnation of the law?
The same is true of the sermons of the apostles of the early church. Was there anyone who disregarded the law just because he preached the gospel? Rather, he testified of the truth against the backdrop of the Old TestAment. The same goes for Stephen. He never broke the Mosaic Law, nor did he blame Solomon's temple. He just testified that we must accept the gospel of Jesus Christ, which appeared as a reality, not just the temple system. Christ did not abolish the law, he perfected it. Therefore, those who understand the law rightly believe that they will attain the glory of receiving Christ.
3. Stephen's Sermon
1) Abraham's promise
The Jews accused Stephen of blasphemy against Moses and God. However, the words of his testimony, filled with wisdom and the Holy Spirit, were mentioned from Abraham, the father of faith, whom they boasted about.
"And Stephen said, "Brothers and brothers, listen to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia before he was in Haran, when the God of glory appeared to him and said, "Leave your country and your relatives and go to a land that I will show you." He left and dwelt in Haran, and when his father died, God moved him from there to the land where you are now” (Acts 7:2-4).
Have you ever wondered how deacon Stephen was able to know the history of Israel so well? These are the words testified by the illumination of the Holy Spirit.
Stephen tells his accusers, “You began with Abraham, the root of Israel, and you came to live in the land of Canaan through the covenant you made with him.”
In Acts 7:5 and below, this promise is passed down through the lineage of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the twelve ancestors. What is special here is the ‘covenant of circumcision’. As Abraham acts to Isaac, Isaac to Jacob, and Jacob to the twelve ancestors, it is clearly stated that this is not a simple lineage, but a ‘covenant lineage’.
2) Exodus incident
It is also about the appearance of Moses and his ministry. This is because Moses may have played a role in the history of Israel, but especially because the accusation against Stephen was to deny Moses.
Looking at the background of Moses' appearance, it is said that "forty years are completed" (7:30). God's salvation through Moses is the fulfillment of the covenant made to Abraham. In particular, in Acts 7:35 and below, it is said that God appointed Moses, whom the Israelites rejected, as the ruler and savior of the people.
“The same Moses, whom they rejected, saying, “Who made you ruler and judge?” God sent by the hand of an angel who had been seen from among the thorn bushes as a ruler and a redeemer, who led the people out of Egypt, the Red Sea and the wilderness. did wonders and signs for forty years in Esau” (Acts 7:35-36).
Stephen did not deny Moses and the law, but testified explicitly.
4. The word of the climax
Stephen, who clearly testifies about historical events about Moses, said that they denied Moses and disobeyed the commandments. The important thing is that Stephen is not here trying to excuse himself by making excuses for himself, but as an evangelist who testifies to this gospel persecuted by the Jews, pointing out their sins against the truth and urging them to repent, just like their stiff-necked and rebellious ancestors. no see.
"Our ancestors refused to obey Moses, and turned their hearts to Egypt, saying to Aaron, "Make us gods who will guide us. We do not know what happened to this Moses who led us out of Egypt." Then they made a calf and sacrificed it to their idol, and they rejoiced in the work of their hands” (Acts 7:39-41).
Who are the sinners and foolish people who deserve to be judged? They are the ancestors of those who fell in the wilderness, and today they are Jews who oppose this truth.
Beware of the inertia of faith. We also need to get rid of false stereotypes. Is there anyone who boasts of the age of faith and yet stands in the way of heaven? You must repent.
“You stiff-necked men and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you too, like your fathers, always resist the Holy Spirit. Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? They killed those who foretold the coming of the righteous, and now you You are the one who caught me You received the law that the angels preached, and you did not keep it” (Acts 7:51-53).
This is a warning from God and a rebuke from the Holy Spirit. Still, the Jews were stubborn and did not repent.
“When they heard this, they were pierced in their hearts and gnashed their teeth at him” (Acts 7:54).
In the end, they threw Stephen out of the city and stoned him to death, so they lost their last chance to repent. The cry of the evangelist Stephen quietly ended there, but the gospel he preached is the eternal truth.
“Lord Jesus, receive my soul.” And he knelt down on his knees and cried out in a loud voice, saying, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” After he had said this, he fell asleep” (Acts 7:58-60).
The blood of martyrs lives. May we also attain glory like Stephen. Amen
