위에서 임하는 권세

요19:1-12

 

빌라도가 "나는 그에게서 아무 죄도 찾지 못하였노라"(요18:38) 하면서도 예수를 채찍질하고, 군병들은 가시로 면류관을 엮어 그의 머리에 씌우고 "유대인의 왕이여 평안할지어다"(3절) 희롱하였습니다.

이 저주와 고통은 죄인 된 내가 받을 형벌이라는 사실을 잊어서는 안 될 것입니다.

"그가 찔림은 우리의 허물 때문이요 그가 상함은 우리의 죄악 때문이라 그가 징계를 받으므로 우리는 평화를 누리고 그가 채찍에 맞으므로 우리는 나음을 받았도다"(사53:5).

 

1. 그리스도에게 씌운 죄목

1) 신성을 모독한 죄

"유대인들이 대답하되 우리에게 법이 있으니 그 법대로 하면 그가 당연히 죽을 것은 그가 자기를 하나님의 아들이라 함이니이다"(7절).

“나와 아버지는 하나이니라 하신대 유대인들이 다시 돌을 들어 치려하거늘 예수께서 대답하시되 내가 아버지로 말미암아 여러 가지 선한 일로 너희에게 보였거늘 그 중에 어떤 일로 나를 돌로 치려 하느냐 유대인들이 대답하되 선한 일로 말미암아 우리가 너를 돌로 치려는 것이 아니라 신성모독으로 인함이니 네가 사람이 되어 자칭 하나님이라 함이로라”(요10:30-33).

하나님의 신성을 모독한 죄는 레위기 24:16과 신명기 13:1-5에 있는 말씀을 적용한 것입니다. 만일 주님께서 하나님의 아들이 아니라면 유대인들로부터 그토록 미움을 받지 않았을 것입니다. 그렇지만 주님은 하나님의 아들입니다. 고난이 두려워서 '자신이 하나님의 아들 됨을 하였다면 그것이 거짓말이지요. 유대인들이 예수를 죽여야 할 정도로 미워한 이유는, '우리는 그를 메시아로 인정할 수가 없다'는데 있었습니다. 그들은 마귀에게 속한 자들이기 때문입니다.

"어찌하여 내 말을 깨닫지 못하느냐 이는 내 말을 들을 줄 알지 못함이로다 너희는 너희 아비 마귀에게서 났으니 너희 아비의 욕심대로 너희도 행하고자 하느니라"(요8:43-44).

2) 백성을 미혹한 자(눅23:2)

이는 주님께서 백성들을 선동하여 폭동을 일으키려했다는 것입니다. 이 역시 근거 없는 말입니다. 그러나 그런 죄목은 로마의 행정관들에게 자극을 주기에는 충분하였습니다. 역사가 요세푸스의 설명에 의하면 갈릴리 사람들은 치안 방해와 폭동을 일으키는 일들이 많았다고 합니다. 더욱이 주님께는 많은 무리들이 따라 다녔기 때문에 그것이 폭동과 혼란을 가중시키는 것으로 보이기가 쉬웠으나 그도 역시 무고일 뿐입니다.

3) 가이사에게 세금 바치는 것을 금한 자(눅23:2)

이것은 유대인들이 주님을 올무에 걸려들게 하기 위해 시험했던 것입니다. 그들이 "가이사에게 세금을 바치는 것이 옳으니이까 옳지 아니하니이까"(마22:17)라고 했을 때 분명히 "가이사의 것은 가이사에게, 하나님의 것은 하나님께 바치라"(마22:21) 하셨습니다.

이는 정해진 국세는 나라에 바치고 성물은 하나님께 드리라는 말씀입니다. 세금을 내지 않으면 어떻게 됩니까? 국법에 따라 벌을 받게 됩니다. 그러므로 국민은 세금을 납부해야 합니다. 성도들이 하나님 앞에 드리는 성물은 어떻습니까? 성물에 관한 문제는 국법에 저촉되지 않습니다. 십일조나 감사헌금을 드리지 않아도 국가에서 재산을 압류하는 일은 없습니다. 그러나 더 중요한 문제는 성물은 하나님의 것이므로 우리는 하나님 앞에서 성물 때문에 죄를 범해서는 안 된다는 것입니다.

신앙이 어렸을 때에는 모든 것이 내 것인데 왜 십분의 일을 떼어야 하는지 아까운 생각이 들지요. 마치 아이들이 부모가 사다 준 것을 내 것이라고 고집부리는 것과 비길 수 있을 것입니다. 그런데 성장하고 철이 들면 어떻게 달라집니까? 효도하는 마음이 들어갑니다. 그렇게 될 때 부모는 재산과 생업을 자식에게 맡기게 되는 것입니다. 하나님도 마찬가지입니다.

'나의 나 됨이 주님의 은혜요, 내게 있는 모든 것이 주님의 것이로소이다' 이러한 믿음으로 주님을 섬길 때 주의 권세와 능력이 내게 임하게 됩니다. 진실로 은혜를 받기를 원하신다면 헌신적인 믿음으로 주님을 섬겨야 합니다.

 

2. 빌라도의 권세

"빌라도가 이 말을 듣고 더욱 두려워하여"(8절).

그 말은 예수가 "하나님의 아들이라"는 말로 인해서입니다. 빌라도는 자기 아내의 꿈 이야기를 듣고, 무죄한 자를 죽이도록 허용한다면 벌을 받을까 두려웠을 것입니다(마27:19).

빌라도는 주님의 무죄와 유대인들의 계획을 다 알고 있었으므로 다시 관정으로 들어가 심문을 하였으나 주님은 대답하지 않았습니다.

여기서 주님의 침묵을 생각해보면,

1) 이미 주님께서 말씀한 바 있었기 때문이요(요18:36-37),

2) 진리에 관해서는 말씀을 하여도 깨닫지 못하기 때문이요,

3) 십자가를 지는 것이 하나님의 뜻임을 알고 있었기 때문입니다.

"그가 곤욕을 당하여 괴로울 때에도 그의 입을 열지 아니하였음이여 마치 도수장으로 끌려가는 어린 양과 털 깎는 자 앞에서 잠잠한 양같이 그의 입을 열지 아니하였도다"(사53:7).

"빌라도가 이르되 내게 말하지 아니하느냐 내가 너를 놓을 권한도 있고 십자가에 못 박을 권한도 있는 줄 알지 못하느냐 예수께서 대답하시되 위에서 주지 아니하셨더라면 나를 해할 권한이 없었으리니 그러므로 나를 네게 넘겨준 자의 죄는 더 크다 하시니라"(10-11).

여기서 우리는 이방인의 권세도 하나님으로 말미암는다는 사실을 알 수 있습니다. 왜냐하면 역사의 주인은 하나님이시요, 역사의 운행자도 하나님이시기 때문입니다.

"각 사람은 위에 있는 권세들에게 복종하라 권세는 하나님으로부터 나지 않음이 없나니 모든 권세는 다 하나님께서 정하신 바라"(롬13:1).

누가 바로를 애굽의 왕으로 세웠습니까? 하나님이십니다. 누가 느브갓네살을 바벨론의 왕으로 세웠습니까? 역시 하나님이십니다. 그런데 중요한 문제는 권세자들이 그 사실을 알지 못하고 있다는 것입니다. 그것을 알지 못하면 어떻게 되는지 보십시오. 교만이 들어가서 헤롯같이 심판을 받게 됩니다.

유의하십시오. 인간이 높아져도 인간 이상의 다른 존재가 될 수 없으며, 낮아져도 인간 이하의 존재가 아닌 그대로 인간이라는 것입니다. 그러므로 자기 분수를 지켜야 합니다.

사람이 왜 교만하게 되는 것은 첫째는 인생의 근본을 알지 못해서요, 다음은 자기의 분수를 모르기 때문입니다. 하나님으로부터 받은 달란트가 무엇인지 알았다면 누구와 비교하여 교만해지거나 비관할 이유가 없을 것입니다.

러시아 작가 톨스토이는 "겸손한 사람보다 힘이 강한 사람은 없다. 겸손한 사람은 자기 자신을 떠나서 신과 함께 하는 사람이다" 하였습니다.

"하나님의 능하신 손아래에서 겸손하라 때가 되면 너희를 높이시리라"(벧전5:6).

 

3. 인민재판

"그러므로 나를 네게 넘겨준 자의 죄는 더 크다 하시니라"(11절).

이 말씀은 빌라도의 무죄를 인정하는 것이 아니라 그 피를 우리와 우리 자손에게 돌리고 예수를 십자가에 못 박게 하소서 소리치는 유대인들과 비교하여 그 경중을 말씀하신 것입니다.

"이러하므로 빌라도가 예수를 놓으려고 힘썼으나 유대인들이 소리 질러 이르되 이 사람을 놓으면 가이사의 충신이 아니니이다 무릇 자기를 왕이라 하는 자는 가이사를 반역하는 것이니이다"(12절). 이것이 곧 인민재판입니다. 여기서 유대인들의 과오를 살펴보면,

1) 예수를 놓으면 가이사의 충신이 아니다.

국회의원들은 장관이나 국무총리를 불러 놓고 호통을 쳐도 지역구 시민들 앞에서는 머리를 숙입니다. 왜냐하면 그들의 신분이 국가 정책을 입안하고 공무원들을 감독하는 위치이지만 지역구민이 뽑아주지 않으면 될 수 없기 때문입니다. 그래서 정치에 꿈을 가진 자라면 국회의원이 되기 위해 노력합니다. 이러한 국회의원을 누가 선출합니까? 지역 국민입니다. 국민이 뽑아주지 않으면 학벌이 높아도 될 수 없고, 돈이 많아도 될 수가 없습니다. 그래서 지역구 관리를 소홀히 할 수가 없는 것입니다.

빌라도도 마찬가지였습니다. 여기서 우리가 기억해야 할 일은 육신의 생각으로 치우치면 영원히 죽고 진리를 따르면 영원히 산다는 것입니다.

여러분! 어떠한 유혹이 있을지라도 혈육과 타협하지 마십시오. 진정 역사적인 안목을 가졌다면 진리의 길을 가야 합니다. 진리를 위한 불이익이라면 부끄러워하지 마십시오.

"믿음으로 모세는 장성하여 바로의 공주의 아들이라 칭함 받기를 거절하고 도리어 하나님의 백성과 함께 고난 받기를 잠시 죄악의 낙을 누리는 것보다 더 좋아하고 그리스도를 위하여 받는 수모를 애굽의 모든 보화보다 더 큰 재물로 여겼으니 이는 상 주심을 바라봄이라"(히11:24-26).

2) 자기를 왕이라 하므로 가이사를 반역하였다.

주권을 회복하기 위해 그처럼 투쟁하던 자들이 누구였습니까? 유대인들이었습니다. 유대인들의 성지로 민족의 혼을 일깨워 주고 있는 맛사다 요새에는 주후 칠십 년 로마군에 의해 예루살렘이 함락되자 엘리에젤 장군이 삼백 명을 거느리고 삼 년 먹을 양식을 저장하고 천수를 받아 마시면서 이 년 동안 로마의 실바 장군에 항거하다가 자살로 끝난 흔적이 남아 있습니다.

히틀러에 의해 학살당한 육백 만에 이르는 생명을 기념하기 위해 세워진 박물관에는 꺼질 줄 모르는 불꽃이 타오르고 있는데, 거기에 새겨 있는 글귀입니다.

"이러한 참상을 잊어버린다는 것은 또 다른 추방을 초래할 것이며, 이것을 잊지 않고 기억하는 것은 치욕을 보상받는 길이다"

유대인들은 다윗의 왕조가 무너진 BC 586년부터 AD 1948년까지 2,500년이 넘도록 나라 없이 살아온 민족입니다. 하나님의 택함 받은 성민이라는 자존심을 가지고 살아온 유대인들이 로마의 통치하에 있는 것을 기뻐할 이유가 없었으나, 그리스도를 미워하는 마음에서 바라바를 풀어주기 원했던 것같이 이제는 유대인의 왕이라는 문제로 가이사를 반역하는 자라고 고발하고 있습니다. 무엇을 의미합니까? 왕 중의 왕이신 그리스도의 통치를 거절하고 스스로 이방의 종으로 살겠다는 주장입니다.

"너희 자신을 종으로 내주어 누구에게 순종하든지 그 순종함을 받는 자의 종이 되는 줄을 너희가 알지 못하느냐 혹은 죄의 종으로 사망에 이르고 혹은 순종의 종으로 의에 이르느니라"(롬6:16).

여러분! 지금 어떠한 멍에 아래 있습니까? 죄의 멍에는 꺾어 버리십시오.

"너희가 그때에 무슨 열매를 얻었느냐 이제는 너희가 그 일을 부끄러워하나니 이는 그 마지막이 사망임이라"(롬6:21).

"위에서 임하는 권세", 빌라도는 그것을 알지 못하며 그리스도를 십자가에 넘겼으나 우리는 하나님의 뜻을 바로 깨닫고 그 뜻에 합당하게 쓰임을 받아 영원한 영광에 이르기를 기원합니다. - 아멘 -

 

 

Power from above

John 19:1-12

 

While Pilate said, "I found no sin in him" (John 18:38), he whipped Jesus, and the soldiers wove a crown of thorns and put it on his head, saying, "Peace, King of the Jews" (verse 3). I did.

We must not forget that this curse and suffering are the punishment that I, as a sinner, will receive.

“He was pierced for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and with his wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).

 

1. The charge against Christ

1) Blasphemy

“The Jews answered, “We have a law, and by it we must die, because he calls himself the Son of God” (verse 7).

“I and my Father are one.” The Jews were about to stone again. Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works through my Father. For which of these things are you trying to stone me?” The Jews answered, “For good works we have made you Not to stone you, but because of blasphemy, because when you became a man, you call yourself God” (John 10:30-33).

The sin of blasphemy against God is an application of the words found in Leviticus 24:16 and Deuteronomy 13:1-5. If the Lord were not the Son of God, he would not have been so hated by the Jews. But the Lord is the Son of God. Fearing suffering, he said, 'If he said he was the Son of God, that would be a lie. The reason the Jews hated Jesus so much that they had to kill him was that 'we cannot acknowledge him as the Messiah'. Because they belong to the devil.

"Why do you not understand my words, because you do not know how to listen to me? You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you also want to do" (John 8:43-44).

2) The one who deceived the people (Luke 23:2)

This means that the Lord was trying to incite the people to riot. This, too, is baseless. But such charges were sufficient to inspire the Roman administrators. The historian Josephus explains that the Galileans often engaged in disturbances and riots. Moreover, because the Lord was followed by a large crowd, it was easy to see it as aggravating riots and confusion, but that too is false.

3) Those who forbade paying taxes to Caesar (Luke 23:2)

This was what the Jews tried to ensnare the Lord. When they said, "Is it lawful or not to pay taxes to Caesar?" (Matthew 22:17), they clearly said, "Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's" (Matthew 22:21).

This means that you should give the set national tax to the country and give holy things to God. What if I don't pay taxes? You will be punished according to national law. Therefore, citizens must pay taxes. What about the holy things that the saints offer before God? Matters concerning sacred objects do not conflict with national law. Even if you do not pay a tithe or give thanks, the state will not confiscate your property. But more importantly, the holy things belong to God, so we must not sin because of them before God.

When I was young, everything was mine, so I wondered why I had to take a tenth off. It could be compared to children insisting that they own what their parents bought them for. But what happens when you grow up and mature? A filial heart enters. When this happens, parents will entrust their wealth and livelihood to their children. So is God.

'Your grace is what I am, and all that I have is yours.' When you serve the Lord with this kind of faith, your authority and power will come to you. If you truly want to receive grace, you must serve the Lord with dedicated faith.

 

2. Pilate's Power

“When Pilate heard these words, he became even more afraid” (verse 8).

That is because Jesus is said to be “the Son of God.” If Pilate listened to his wife's dream story and allowed him to kill his innocent man, he would have feared that he would be punished (Matthew 27:19).

Pilate knew the Lord's innocence and all the plans of the Jews, so he went back to the courthouse and interrogated him, but the Lord did not answer.

Considering the silence of the Lord here,

1) Because the Lord has already spoken (John 18:36-37),

2) It is because they do not understand the truth even if they speak it.

3) Because they knew that it was God's will to bear the cross.

“He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; like a lamb to the slaughter, and a sheep silent before its shearers, so he did not open his mouth” (Isaiah 53:7).

“Pilate said to him, “Do you not tell me that you do not know that I have authority to release you and to crucify you? ” (10-11).

Here we can see that the power of the Gentiles also comes from God. Because the master of history is God, and the operator of history is also God.

“Let each one be subject to the authorities that are above him. There is no authority except from God, and all authority is ordained of God” (Romans 13:1).

Who made Pharaoh king of Egypt? He is God. Who made Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon? He is also God. But the important problem is that the authorities are not aware of this fact. See what happens if you don't know it. Pride enters and you will be judged like Herod.

Please note. Even if a human becomes high, he cannot become anything other than a human being, and even if he becomes low, he is not a being less than a human, but a human being. Therefore, he must keep his fountain.

The reason a person becomes proud is first because he does not know the origins of his life, and secondly because he does not know his own fraction. If you knew what the talents you received from God were, there would be no reason to be proud or pessimistic compared to anyone else.

The Russian writer Tolstoy said, "No man is stronger than the humble. The humble are those who leave themselves and be with God."

“Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, for in due time he will exalt you” (1 Peter 5:6).

 

3. People's Trial

“Therefore the sin of the one who delivered me to you is greater” (verse 11).

These words are not an acknowledgment of Pilate's innocence, but rather a weighty comparison with the Jews who cry out for their blood to be given to us and to our children and that Jesus may be crucified.

"For this reason Pilate tried to release Jesus, but the Jews cried out, "If you release this man, you are not Caesar's loyalist. Anyone who calls himself a king is rebelling against Caesar" (verse 12). This is the people's trial. If we look at the mistakes of the Jews here,

1) If you let Jesus go, you are not Caesar's loyalist.

Members of ParliAment bow their heads in front of the citizens of the constituency even if they call the minister or prime minister and shout. This is because their position is to formulate national policies and supervise public officials, but it cannot be done unless the local residents elect them. So, if you have a dream in politics, you try to become a member of the National Assembly. Who elects these MPs? Local citizens. If the people do not elect them, it cannot be achieved even if the educational level is high, and even if the money is large. That is why we cannot neglect constituency management.

So was Pilate. What we need to remember here is that if we lean toward the fleshly thoughts, we will die forever, and if we follow the truth, we will live forever.

everyone! Whatever the temptation, do not compromise with blood. If you have a truly historical perspective, you must go on the path of truth. Don't be shy if it's a disadvantage for the truth.

"By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, and preferred to suffer with the people of God, rather than to enjoy the temporary pleasures of iniquity, and to be humiliated for Christ's sake more than all the treasures of Egypt. They counted it as great riches, because they looked for a reward” (Hebrews 11:24-26).

2) He rebelled against Caesar because he called himself a king.

Who were these struggles to restore sovereignty? They were Jews. The Jews are a people who have lived without a nation for over 2,500 years from 586 BC to 1948 AD, when David's dynasty fell. The Jews, who had lived with the pride of being God's chosen holy people, had no reason to rejoice that they were under the rule of Rome, but just as they wanted to release Barabbas out of their hatred of Christ, they now accused Caesar of rebelling against Caesar on the issue of being the king of the Jews. are doing What does it mean? It is a claim to reject the rule of Christ, the King of kings, and to live as a servant of the Gentiles.

“Do you not know that to whomever you submit yourselves as slaves to obey, you are slaves to the one whom you obey? or by sin leads to death, or by obedience leads to righteousness” (Romans 6:16).

everyone! What yoke are you under now? Break the yoke of sin.

“What fruit did you get back then? Now you are ashamed of it.

for the end is death" (Romans 6:21).

“The authority that comes from above,” Pilate, did not know it and delivered Christ to the cross, but we pray that we will understand God’s will rightly and be used according to it to achieve eternal glory. - Amen -
