항아리에 물을 채우라

요2:1-11

 

성지를 순례하는 순례객들 중에는 주님께서 물로 포도주를 만들었던 갈릴리 가나에서 구입한 포도주와, 요단강 물을 가져 와서 성례에 사용하는 사람도 있다고 합니다. 정성이야 지극하다고 하겠으나 사실은 그 물보다 귀중한 것은 은혜의 생수입니다.

 

1. 모자란 포도주

옛날이나 지금이나 잔칫날은 손님이 많습니다. 또 손님이 많다는 것은 주인으로서는 기뻐할 일이지요. 그에 대비하여 음식을 넉넉히 준비하지만 모자라면 난처하지요. 오늘 같으면 대형 음식점이나 전문적으로 이런 일을 대행하는 업체가 있어서 편리한 세상이 되었습니다.

그런데 물질은 한정이 있으므로 수요가 많으면 모자라게 마련입니다. 물가의 오르내림도 마찬가지입니다.

"사흘째 되던 날 갈릴리 가나에 혼례가 있어 예수의 어머니도 거기 계시고"(1절).

그 집은 마리아와 가까운 친척으로 짐작할 수 있습니다.

"예수와 그 제자들도 혼례에 청함을 받았더니"(2절).

그때는 열두 제자보다 갈릴리에서 함께한 네 제자로 보고 있습니다.

"포도주가 떨어진지라"(3절)

우리나라로는 잔칫집에 술이나 음료수가 떨어졌다는 것입니다. 이는 몰려드는 손님들이 있었는데 난처한 일이 아닐 수 없었습니다.

"예수의 어머니가 예수에게 이르되 저들에게 포도주가 없다 하니 예수께서 이르시되 여자여 나와 무슨 상관이 있나이까 내 때가 아직 이르지 못하였나이다"(3-4).

여기서 유의할 것은,

1) "여자여" 하신 말씀입니다.

이 말씀은 주님께서 하나님의 아들로서 하신 말씀입니다. 이는 주님께서 십자가에 못 박혔을 때에도,

"여자여 보소서 아들이니이다"(요19:26) 하셨습니다.

믿음의 조상 아브라함과 다윗도 하나님께서 기르시는 양이요 오직 주님만이 선한 목자이십니다.

여기서 성모 마리아에게 특권을 부여하는 카톨릭의 교리가 잘못되었음을 깨달을 수 있습니다. 오직 유일하신 중보자, 그리스도로 말미암아 영생에 이르게 됨을 믿으셔야 합니다.

"나와 무슨 상관이 있나이까?"(4절).

모자란 포도주 문제는 세상 문제요 구원 사역이 아니기 때문입니다.

2) "내 때가 아직 이르지 못하였나이다"(4절)라는 말씀입니다.

지금 혼인 집에 포도주가 떨어진 일로 해결책을 구했는데 예수님은 다른 의미로 "내 때가 아직 이르지 못하였나이다" 하셨습니다.

여기서 "내 때가"라는 말씀은 "작정된 시간"으로 메시아로서 영광을 받으실 때를 의미합니다. 즉 예수의 죽음과 부활, 재림으로 인해 성도들과 이루어질 영원한 혼인 기약을 가리키는 말씀입니다.

"내 때가 아직 이르지 못하였나이다" 말씀하신 주님께서 밧모섬에 요한에게 "이 때" 곧 기약이 이르렀음을 말씀하셨습니다.

"또 내가 들으니 허다한 무리의 음성과도 같고 많은 물소리와도 같고 큰 우렛소리와도 같은 소리로 이르되

할렐루야 주 우리 하나님 곧 전능하신 이가 통치하시도다 우리가 즐거워하고 크게 기뻐하며 그에게 영광을 돌리세 어린 양의 혼인 기약이 이르렀고 그의 아내가 자신을 준비하였으므로 그에게 빛나고 깨끗한 세마포 옷을 입도록 허락하셨으니 이 세마포 옷은 성도들의 옳은 행실이로다"(계19:6-8).

그날이 눈앞에 다가오고 있습니다. 우리 모두 슬기 있는 다섯 처녀와 같이 기름 준비 넉넉히 하여 신랑 되신 주님 맞이해야 합니다.

또 모자라는 포도주가 우리에게 주는 교훈이 무엇입니까? 물질로는 충족을 줄 수 없다는 것입니다. 풍요로운 사회는 풍요 속에 영적인 빈곤이 있고, 궁핍한 사회에는 궁핍으로 여전히 만족이 없는 것입니다. 그것을 어떻게 해결할 수 있을까요? 하나님의 은혜입니다. 그것이 오병이어와 칠병이어의 은혜요, 초대 교회의 은혜입니다. 은혜의 잔치는 항상 넉넉함을 믿으시기 바랍니다.

 

2. 항아리에 물을 채우라.

"그의 어머니가 하인들에게 이르되 너희에게 무슨 말씀을 하시든지 그대로 하라 하니라"(5절).

마리아는 주님께서 모자라는 포도주를 능히 해결해 주실 것을 믿었습니다. 그 믿음이 귀중합니다.

여러분! 성령이 나를 통해 영광 받으시기를 기뻐하실 때에 거역하지 마십시오. 믿음으로 순종하여 주님의 영광을 드러내는 일꾼들이 되시기를 바랍니다.

"거기에 유대인의 정결예식을 따라 두세 통 드는 돌항아리 여섯이 놓였는지라"(요2:6).

"유대인들의 정결예식을 따라" 이 말씀은 일반적인 관습에 의하여 손과 발을 씻는 것을 의미합니다. 혹자는 돌 항아리 여섯에 의미를 두기도 합니다. 그러나 주님께서 돌항아리 숫자에 진리적인 의미를 두신 것이 아니라 물이 포도주로 변하게 하는 데 있습니다. 여기에는 주님의 말씀에 순종하여 아구까지 물을 채웠던 하인들도 있었습니다. 우리는 말씀이 내게 어떻게 임하든지 순종하여 주님의 사역에 동참하는 성도들이 되시기를 소원합니다.

 

3. 연회장에게 갖다 주라.

"이제는 떠서 연회장에게 갖다 주라 하시매 갖다 주었더니"(요2:8).

어느 순간에 물이 포도주로 변했을까 하는 것이 궁금하지만, 중요한 것은 순종입니다. 하인들은 주님의 말씀에 순종했습니다. "잔칫집에서 포도주가 모자란다고 해서 포도주 대신 물을 떠다 줄 수는 없지 않겠느냐"고 했다면 그 말이 잘못이라고 할 수는 없을 것입니다. 그러나 주님의 말씀이기에 순종하여 항아리에 물을 채웠고, 또 연회장에게 갖다 주라 하시므로 그대로 하였더니 물이 포도주로 변했던 것입니다. 우리는 주님께서 가라면 가고, 오라면 오고, 하라면 하는 믿음의 성도가 되어야 합니다.

말씀대로 순종할 때 나의 손과 발은 평소와 달리 복음의 역사를 일으키는 그리스도의 지체로 쓰임을 받게 될 줄 믿습니다.

 

4. 질 좋은 포도주

"연회장은 물로 된 포도주를 맛보고도 어디서 났는지 알지 못하되 물 떠온 하인들은 알더라 연회장이 신랑을 불러 말하되 사람마다 먼저 좋은 포도주를 내고 취한 후에 낮은 것을 내거늘 그대는 지금까지 좋은 포도주를 두었도다"(요 2:9-10).

물론 하인들이 그로 인해 진리의 비밀을 다 알게 되었다는 의미는 아닙니다. 어떻게 해서 물이 포도주로 변했는지 그 것은 몰라도 물을 길어다 부었다는 것은 확실하다는 것입니다. 그런 것을 인간의 공적으로 돌릴 수는 없지요. 단지 그들에게 있다면 주님의 말씀에 순종했다는 것뿐입니다. 그들은 하인이지만 주님의 말씀에 순종했을 때 그 기적을 맛볼 수가 있었습니다.

“주님의 능력은 내가 약할 때 가장 잘 들어납니다. 약함은 가장 실제적으로 그분의 능력을 보여줄 수 있는 무대입니다.” (John Stott)

진리의 말씀에 순종하십시오. 물이 변하여 포도주가 될 것입니다. 과거에는 무용지물이었고, 존재악의 사람이었다 할지라도 말씀에 순종할 때 없어서는 안 될 존귀한 사람으로 변화될 줄 믿습니다.

물건은 시간이 지나면 낡아지게 마련이고, 사람도 나이 들면 늙어집니다. 그러나 영원토록 변하지 않는 것이 있습니다. 그것은 진리입니다. 그러므로 진리의 세계는 영원토록 새로운 것입니다. 물이 포도주가 되어 사람들을 만족시켜 주었듯이 모든 사람의 필요를 충족시켜 주는 것이 하나님의 은혜요, 사망에서 생명으로 구원하는 것이 진리입니다.

주님의 말씀에 순종하십시오.

"항아리에 물을 채우라"

"이제는 떠서 연회장에게 갖다 주라"

어느새 물은 포도주로 변했습니다.

우리 모두 주의 권능과 기적을 체험하고 하나님의 영광을 크게 드러내는 은혜가 있기를 기원합니다. - 아멘 -

 

Fill the jar with water

John 2:1-11

 

It is said that some of the pilgrims on the pilgrimage bring wine purchased from Cana in Galilee, where the Lord made wine with water, and water from the Jordan River to use for sacrAments. It may be said that sincerity is supreme, the truth is, the living water of grace is more precious than that water.

 

1. Lack of wine

In the past and now, there are many guests on feast days. Also, the fact that there are many customers is something to be happy about as a host. Prepare enough food for that, but if you don't have enough, you're in trouble. Today, it has become a more convenient world because there are large restaurants or companies that specialize in this kind of work.

However, materials are limited, so if there is a lot of demand, there will be a shortage. The same goes for rising and falling prices.

“On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there” (verse 1).

The house can be guessed as a close relative of Maria.

“Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding” (verse 2).

At that time, I see them as four disciples who were with me in Galilee rather than the twelve.

“The wine ran out” (verse 3).

In Korea, alcohol or beverages ran out of banquets. This was an embarrassment when there were crowds of guests.

"Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no wine." Jesus said to him, "Woman, what have you to do with me? My hour has not yet come" (3-4).

It should be noted here,

1) "Woman," is what you said.

These words were spoken by the Lord as the Son of God. Even when the Lord was crucified,

“Woman, behold, she is a son” (John 19:26).

Abraham and David, the fathers of faith, are also sheep of God, and only the Lord is the good shepherd.

Here we can realize that the Catholic doctrine of granting privileges to the Virgin Mary is wrong. You must believe that you can attain eternal life through the only Mediator, Christ.

“What have you to do with me?” (v. 4).

This is because the problem of insufficient wine is a world problem and not a work of salvation.

2) “My hour has not yet come” (verse 4).

I was looking for a solution because the wine ran out at the wedding house, but Jesus said in a different way, "My hour has not yet come."

The word “my hour” here means the time when He will be glorified as the Messiah at the “appointed time”. In other words, it refers to the promise of eternal marriage with the saints through the death, resurrection, and second coming of Jesus.

The Lord, who had said, “My hour has not yet come,” said to John on the Isle of Patmos that “at this time,” that is, the promise had come.

“And I heard a voice like the voice of a great multitude, like the sound of many waters, and like the sound of great thunder, saying,

Hallelujah, the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. Let us rejoice and rejoice and give glory to him. The marriage of the Lamb has come, and his wife has prepared herself; Clothing is the right thing for the saints” (Revelation 19:6-8).

That day is approaching. All of us, like the five wise virgins, should prepare enough oil to welcome the Lord, the bridegroom.

Also, what is the lesson for us from the lack of wine? It is the fact that material cannot provide satisfaction. An affluent society has spiritual poverty in its abundance, and a poor society is still unsatisfied with its poverty. How can I solve it? It is God's grace. That is the grace of the five and seven years, and the grace of the early church. Please believe that the feast of grace is always abundant.

 

2. Fill the jar with water.

“His mother said to the servants, “Whatever he says to you, do it” (verse 5).

Mary believed that the Lord was able to solve the shortage of wine. Her trust is precious.

everyone! When the Holy Spirit rejoices to be glorified through me, do not resist. I hope that you will become workers who show the glory of the Lord by obedience in faith.

“There were placed six stone jars carrying two or three barrels according to the Jewish purification rites” (John 2:6).

"According to the rites of purification of the Jews" This means washing hands and feet according to the common custom. Some even attach significance to the six stone jars. However, the Lord did not give any truth to the number of stone jars, but to turn water into wine. There were also servants here who obeyed the word of the Lord and filled up the Agu with water. We hope that no matter how the Word comes to us, we will obey and become believers who participate in the work of the Lord.

 

3. Bring it to the banquet hall.

“Now, take it out and bring it to the banquet hall,” and he gave it to him” (John 2:8).

I wonder at what moment water turned into wine, but the important thing is obedience. The servants obeyed the word of the Lord. If you said, "If there is not enough wine at the banquet, why can't you drink water instead of wine?" However, he obeyed the Lord's command and filled the jar with water and told him to bring it to the banquet hall. We must become saints of faith that the Lord tells us to go, if he comes, to come.

When I obey the Word, I believe that my hands and feet will be used as members of Christ who cause the work of the gospel, unlike usual.

 

4. Fine wine

"The banquet hall tasted the water-based wine, but did not know where it came from, but the servants who brought it up knew it. The banquet hall called the bridegroom and said, "Everyone makes good wine first, and after they get drunk, they serve low things, but you have kept good wine until now." John 2:9-10).

Of course, this does not mean that the servants have learned all the secrets of the truth. It is not known how the water turned into wine, but it is certain that water was poured into it. It cannot be attributed to human merit. The only thing they have is that they have obeyed the word of the Lord. Although they are servants, they were able to taste the miracle when they obeyed the word of the Lord.

“The power of the Lord is best heard when I am weak. His weakness is the stage where he can most practically show his power.” (John Stott)

Obey the word of truth. The water will turn into wine. In the past, it was useless, and even if you were a person of existence and evil, I believe that you will be transformed into an indispensable and noble person when you obey the Word.

Things tend to wear out over time, and people get old as they get older. But there are some things that never change. It is the truth. Therefore, the world of truth is forever new. Just as water became wine and satisfied people, so it is God's grace to satisfy everyone's needs, and it is the truth to save from death to life.

Obey the word of the Lord.

"Fill the jar with water"

"Now, float it and bring it to the banquet hall."

Soon the water turned into wine.

I pray that all of us will experience the power and miracles of the Lord and have the grace of revealing the glory of God greatly. - Amen -
