성전을 청결하게 하신 주님

요2:12-25

 

주님께서 가나 혼인 잔칫집에서 물을 포도주 되게 하신 후에, 어머니 마리아와 형제들과 제자들과 함께 가버나움으로 내려가셨다가, 유대인의 유월절이 가까우므로 예루살렘으로 올라가셨습니다.

"그 어머니와 형제들과"(12절) 이라고 했는데 그 형제들이라는 말씀에 대해서 몇 가지 학설이 있습니다.

① 요셉 전처의 소생으로 예수님의 이복형제들

② 알패오와 성모 마리아 동생의 자녀들

③ 예수님의 친동생

천주교를 제외한 개신교의 입장은 세 번째입니다. 주님께서 회당에서 가르치실 때 그들이 말하기를,

"이 사람의 이 지혜와 이런 능력이 어디서 났느냐 이는 그 목수의 아들이 아니냐 그 어머니는 마리아, 그 형제들은 야고보, 요셉, 시몬, 유다라 하지 않느냐 그 누이들은 다 우리와 함께 있지 아니하냐 그런즉 이 사람의 이 모든 것이 어디서 났느냐"(마13:54-56) 하였습니다.

 

1. 유월절을 지키기 위해 예루살렘으로 올라가신 주님

"유대인의 유월절이 가까운지라"(13절).

주님께서 공생애에 접어들어 첫 번째로 지키게 되는 유월절입니다. 성경에는 주님께서 강보에 싸인 아기 때와 12세 때 유월절을 지켰다는 것은 기록되었으나 매년 절기를 지켰으리라 믿어집니다.

그리스도의 공생애에서도 유월절을 세 번 지켰다는 주장(요2:13; 6:4; 11:55)과 네 번 지켰다는 주장(눅6:1; 마 12:1)이 있습니다.

 

2. 성전을 청결하게 하신 주님

"유대인의 유월절이 가까운지라 예수께서 예루살렘으로 올라가셨더니 성전 안에서 소와 양과 비둘기 파는 사람들과 돈 바꾸는 사람들이 앉아 있는 것을 보시고 노끈으로 채찍을 만드사 양이나 소를 다 성전에서 내쫓으시고 돈 바꾸는 사람들의 돈을 쏟으시며 상을 엎으시고 비둘기 파는 사람들에게 이르시되 이것을 여기서 가져가라 내 아버지의 집으로 장사하는 집을 만들지 말라"(13-16).

이는 중요한 사건입니다.

여기서 우리가 깨달아야 할 것은 무의식중에 발생하고 있는 세속화 현상입니다. 유대인들이 얼마나 율법에 엄격하였습니까? 그런데도 그처럼 거룩한 성전을 강도의 굴혈로 만들었다면(눅19:46) 제사인들 상달될 수 있었겠습니까? 이는 분명히 하나님을 욕되게 하는 행위입니다.

구라파에서는 나라에서 종교 세금을 부과하여 성직자들에게 국가 공무원들같이 월급을 지불합니다. 그로인해 어떤 현상이 빚어지고 있는지 아십니까? 교인들이 교회에 등을 돌리고 있다는 것입니다. 교회가 종교 의식은 있으나 경건의 능력이 없고, 모든 것이 형식에 그치므로 갈급한 영혼들의 욕구를 충족하지 못하므로 양들이 흩어질 수밖에 없는 것이지요. 우리들도 마찬가지입니다. 물적인 풍요 속에 영혼이 병들어 죽어간다면 그것을 사회적인 발전이 있다고 해서 기뻐할 수는 없는 것입니다. 그러므로 진리 가운데서 영혼이 잘되고 범사가 형통하고 강건해지는 은혜를 힘입어야 합니다.

 

3. 성전이 시장으로 전락된 이유

"성전 안에서 소와 양과 비둘기파는 사람들과 돈 바꾸는 사람들의 앉아있는 것을 보시고"(14절).

주석가들은 그런 현상을 제사장들의 타락으로 지적하고 있습니다. 제사장들이 뇌물을 먹고 눈을 감아준 일로 인해 성전 안에서 그런 일이 자행될 수 있었다는 것입니다. 결코 방치할 수 없는 문제입니다. 그런데 더욱 심각한 것은 타성에 젖어들면 죄악을 죄악으로 인식하지 못하게 된다는 것입니다. 동물학자들이 동물들의 생태를 연구할 때 가까운 위치에서 카메라에 담기 위해 어떻게 하는지 아십니까? 위장막을 쳐 놓고 그 안에서 몇날 며칠을 지내다 보면 새들은 위장막인 줄 모르고 놀라지를 않는다는 것입니다. 그 때에 사람들은 카메라 렌즈만 내 놓고 마음대로 찍게 됩니다. 사람도 마찬가지입니다. 신혼살림을 차릴 때는 매일 매일 털고 쓸고 닦아 집안에 먼지 앉을 틈이 없지요. 그런데 아들, 딸 낳고 살다보면 일하기가 힘이 들고, 새 물건들은 낡아지고, 손이 닫지 않는 곳에는 먼지가 쌓이게 마련입니다. 어디 그뿐인 줄 아십니까? 연세가 높아지면 집안은 골동품 시장으로 변하게 됩니다. 사람이 골동품으로 변하니 생활환경도 그렇게 될 수밖에 없습니다.

몇 해전 미국에 갔을 때 산호제에 있는 동창 목사님댁에 들른 적이 있었습니다. 그 분은 늦게 신학을 공부하고 미국으로 가서 목회를 하는데 아들, 딸을 모두 출가시키고 두 분만 생활하고 있었습니다. 그런데 욕실을 보니 새 세면기는 잘 보관해 두고 흠이 있는 것을 사용하고 있었습니다. 본인들은 그런 것에 불편을 안 느껴도 간혹 자녀들이 찾아오면 이것저것 낡은 것은 내버리기 바쁘다고 합니다. 그리고 보니 저의 집 사정도 별로 다를 바가 없는 것 같습니다.

여러분! 육신의 생활이야 검소해서 나쁠 것이 없겠으나 영이 세속화되는 일을 방치해서는 안 될 것입니다. 죄가 우리 가운데 들어오는 과정을 비유하면 낙타가 처음에는 밖이 추우니 머리만 들여놓자고 사정하다가 허락을 하면 발도 들여 놓자고 하고, 또 용납하면 이제는 그 큰 몸체가 다 들어와서 주인 행세를 한다는 이야기입니다. 죄의 유혹은 단호하게 물리치십시오.

성전에서 장사하는 사람들도 처음부터 그렇게 하지는 않았을 것입니다. 이스라엘 백성들은 어릴 때부터 매년 돌아오는 절기는 철저하게 지키도록 교육을 받았으므로 절기 때는 예루살렘으로 모여드는 사람들이 많았을 것입니다. 이로 인해 장사하는 사람들은 그들의 편의를 제공하면서 이윤을 얻게 되므로 성직자들이 방치하는 가운데 결국은 성소 안에까지 들어오게 되었던 것입니다. 그토록 잘못된 일을 누가 바로 잡았습니까? 타성에 젖어들고 뇌물에 눈이 어두워진 자들은 할 수가 없었으나 주님께서 척결하셨습니다. 그러므로 내가 먼저 변화를 받기 전에는 환경을 변화시킬 수 없다는 사실을 깨달아야 합니다.

저는 얼마 전에 어느 성도를 통해 "목사님, 제가 예배 시간마다 졸음을 이기지 못해 눈을 감았는데 이제는 졸음 마귀가 뚝 떨어졌어요. 목사님의 설교가 어떻게나 잘 들리는지 그렇게 감사할 수가 없어요." 하는 전화를 받았습니다. 그동안 병마의 고통으로 지불한 댓가가 있었기에 주님의 은혜를 더 귀하게 받게 될 줄 믿습니다.

모두가 타성을 깨뜨리고 변화를 받아 마음속 천국을 이루는 은혜를 힘입기를 바랍니다.

 

4. 의의 등장은 불의의 심판입니다.

하나님은 사랑이시므로 우리를 구원하기 위해 예수님을 보내 주셨습니다. 그러나 또 하나님은 의로우시므로 불의를 용납하지 않으십니다.

"하나님의 진노가 불의로 진리를 막는 사람들의 모든 경건하지 않음과 불의에 대하여 하늘로부터 나타나나니"(롬 1:18).

옳습니다. 우리는 노아 홍수의 심판을 비롯하여 크고 작은 심판이 이유 없이 가해진 것이 아님을 알았다면 경성해야 합니다. 성령도 마찬가지입니다.

"내가 너희에게 실상을 말하노니 내가 떠나가는 것이 너희에게 유익이라 내가 떠나가지 아니하면 보혜사가 너희에게로 오시지 아니할 것이요 가면 내가 그를 너희에게로 보내리니 그가 와서 죄에 대하여, 의에 대하여, 심판에 대하여 세상을 책망하시리라"(요16:7-8).

그러므로 성령이 임하면 죄인이 회개하고 새 사람이 되는 것입니다.

여러분! 주님의 사랑이 불의를 용납하고 죄도 묵인하는 것으로 착각하지 마십시오. 회개를 모르는 죄인들은 주님 오시는 날 산과 언덕에 자신을 숨겨도 어린 양의 진노를 면할 수는 없는 것입니다. 주의 전을 장사하는 집으로 전락시키고 강도의 굴혈로 만든 일은 용납할 수 없는 큰 죄가 됩니다. 그러므로 항상 경건한 생활로 우리의 몸과 마음을 거룩히 지켜 나가야 합니다.

"너희는 너희가 하나님의 성전인 것과 하나님의 성령이 너희 안에 계시는 것을 알지 못하느냐 누구든지 하나님의 성전을 더럽히면 하나님이 그 사람을 멸하시리라 하나님의 성전은 거룩하니 너희도 그러하니라"(고전3:16-17).

모두가 몸으로 제물 삼아 하나님께 영광 돌리는 성도들이 되시기를 소원합니다.

 

5. 주의 전을 사모하는 열심이 나를 삼키리라

"제자들이 성경 말씀에 주의 전을 사모하는 열심이 나를 삼키리라 한 것을 기억하더라"(17절).

이 말씀은 주님께서 맡은 본분과 사명을 따라 희생을 각오하고 실천했다는 말씀입니다.

여러분! 우리는 어떻습니까? 과연 주님께서 기뻐하시고, 원하시는 뜻을 위해 얼마나 충성하고 있습니까? 주님의 일이 인간 체면이나 자존심 때문에 좌우된다면 주님의 기대에 부응하지 못할 것입니다. 진심으로 주님을 사랑하십니까? 목숨을 다하여 주님을 섬기시고 주의 몸 된 교회를 청결하게 하는 일에 앞장서는 성도들이 되시기 소원합니다.

 

6. 이 성전을 헐라

"이에 유대인들이 대답하여 예수께 말하기를 네가 이런 일을 행하니 무슨 표적을 우리에게 보이겠느냐"(18절).

"네가 이런 일을 행하니" 그들은 주님께서 하시는 일에 대해 무엇이 잘못되었다는 지적은 못하고 "무슨 표적을 우리에게 보이겠느냐" 하였습니다.

이것은 우리에게 무슨 믿음의 증거를 제시할 수 있겠느냐? 우리의 믿음에 무슨 도움을 줄 수 있겠느냐? 하는 말입니다. 복 받기를 원하신다면 복 받을 일을 하셔야 합니다. 은혜받기를 원하신다면 은혜받을 일을 하십시오. 하늘나라 상 받기를 원하신다면 충성을 다짐하시기 바랍니다.

"너희가 이 성전을 헐라 내가 사흘 동안에 일으키리라 유대인들이 이르되 이 성전은 사십육 년 동안에 지었거늘 네가 삼 일 동안에 일으키겠느냐 하더라"(19-20).

이처럼 대화가 막혔는데 어떻게 진리가 통할 수 있겠습니까? 주님께서는 영생의 진리를 말씀하시는데 그들은 여전히 육신의 말로 받아들이고 있었습니다.

"내가 불을 땅에 던지러 왔노니 이 불이 이미 붙었으면 내가 무엇을 원하리요."(눅12:49).

유대인뿐만 아니라 모르기는 제자들도 마찬가지였습니다.

"죽은 자 가운데서 살아나신 후에야 제자들이 이 말씀하신 것을 기억하고 성경과 예수께서 하신 말씀을 믿었더라"(22절).

무슨 말씀일까요? 주님의 복음이 주님께서 부활전에는 방언으로 들렸다는 것입니다. 어느 때에 깨닫는 지각이 열려졌다고 했습니까? "죽은 자 가운데서 살아나신 후에야" 다시 말씀드리면 오순절 성령 강림 역사가 일어난 후에 이 진리를 알게 되었다는 말씀입니다.

여러분! 아직도 주의 진리가 방언으로 들리지는 않습니까? 은혜를 받으셔야 합니다.

바울이 깨달은 진리가 오늘 우리의 진리입니다. 세상 것을 배설물같이 포기할 수 있었다면 이는 영원한 진리를 깨달았을 뿐 아니라 그것을 소유했다는 증거입니다.

"주의 전을 사모하는 열심이 나를 삼키리라"

의의 불검을 높이 들고 우리도 세속과 타성을 척결하고 주의 전을 청결하는 성도들이 되시기를 기원합니다. - 아멘 -

 

 

The Lord Cleansed the Temple

John 2:12-25

 

After the Lord made the water wine at the wedding feast in Cana, he went down to Capernaum with his mother Mary and her brothers and disciples, and then went up to Jerusalem because the Jewish Passover was near.

There are several theories about the word "her mother and her brothers" (v. 12), but the brothers.

① The half brothers of Jesus as the offspring of Joseph’s ex-wife

② Children of Alphaeus and the Virgin Mary's brother

③ Jesus’ younger brother

Except for Catholicism, the position of Protestants is the third. As the Lord taught in the synagogue, they said,

"Where did this man's wisdom and such powers come from? Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary, and his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas? Are not all his sisters with us? Where did all these things of man come from?" (Matthew 13:54-56).

 

1. The Lord went up to Jerusalem to keep the Passover

“The Passover of the Jews is near” (verse 13).

It is the first Passover that the Lord observes as he enters his public life. It is recorded in the Bible that the Lord kept the Passover when he was a baby wrapped in cloths and when he was 12 years old, but it is believed that he kept the feast every year.

There are claims that the Passover was kept three times in Christ's public life (John 2:13; 6:4; 11:55) and four times (Luke 6:1; Matt 12:1).

 

2. The Lord Cleansed the Temple

“As the Jewish Passover was near, Jesus went up to Jerusalem and saw in the temple those selling oxen, sheep, and doves and money changers, and he made a whip out of cords and drove all the sheep and cattle out of the temple, and the money changers Pouring the money, he overturned the table and said to those who sold doves, Take this from here, and do not make my father's house a house of business" (13-16).

This is an important event.

What we need to realize here is the subconscious phenomenon of secularization. How strict were the Jews? Still, if the holy temple had been made into a den of robbers (Luke 19:46), would the priests have been able to ascend? This is clearly an act that dishonors God.

In Europe, the country imposes a religious tax that pays the clergy just like state officials. Do you know what's going on with that? It means that the members of the church are turning their backs on the church. Although the church has religious ceremonies, it lacks the power of godliness, and since everything is just a form, it cannot satisfy the thirst of souls, so the sheep have no choice but to scatter. So are we. If the soul gets sick and dies in the midst of material abundance, there is no reason to be happy just because there is social development. Therefore, in the truth, the soul prospers, and all things prosper, and we must have the grace of becoming strong.

 

3. Why the temple was turned into a marketplace

“And he saw oxen and sheep and dove sellers and money changers sitting in the temple” (verse 14).

Commentators point to such a phenomenon as the corruption of the priests. The priests took bribes and closed their eyes, which could have been done in the temple. It is a problem that cannot be neglected. But what is more serious is that if you become immersed in inertia, you will not be able to recognize sin as sin. Do you know what zoologists do to get close-up cameras when they study the ecology of animals? If you put a camouflage film on it and spend a few days in it, the birds do not know that it is a camouflage film and are not surprised. At that time, people just put out the camera lens and take pictures as they please. So are people. When setting up a house for the newlyweds, there is no room for dust to sit in the house by shaving, sweeping, and wiping every day. However, after having a son or a daughter, it becomes difficult to work, new items become old, and dust accumulates in places that cannot be closed by hand. Do you know where it is? As you get older, the house turns into an antique market. As people turn into antiques, so does their living environment.

A few years ago, when I was in the United States, I stopped by an alumni pastor's house in San Jose. He studied theology late and went to the United States to minister. By the way, he looked at the bathroom and saw that the new washbasin had been well kept and had blemishes in use. Even if they do not feel uncomfortable with such things, they say that they are busy throwing away old things when their children come to visit. And it seems that the situation in my house is not much different.

everyone! There is nothing wrong with being frugal in our physical life, but we must not allow our spirit to become worldly. If we compare the process of sin entering us, it is a story of a camel at first asking to put only its head in because it is cold outside. . Resolutely resist the temptations of sin.

Even those who trade in the temple would not have done so in the first place. Since the children of Israel were educated to strictly observe the annual feasts from an early age, many people must have come to Jerusalem during the festivals. Because of this, business people made a profit while providing their convenience, so they ended up entering the sanctuary while the priests neglected it. Who righted something so wrong? Those who were drenched in inertia and blinded by bribes could not do it, but the Lord eliminated them. Therefore, I must realize that I cannot change the environment until I have been changed first.

Some time ago, through a church member, I said, "Pastor, I closed my eyes because I couldn't overcome my drowsiness at every service, but now the sleepy devil has fallen. I can't thank you for how well you can hear your sermon." I got a call saying I believe you will receive the grace of the Lord more preciously because you have paid the price for suffering from illness.

I hope that everyone will be helped by the grace of breaking their inertia and being transformed into heaven in their hearts.

 

4. The appearance of righteousness is the judgment of unrighteousness.

God is love, so He sent Jesus to save us. But again, God is righteous, so He does not tolerate injustice.

“The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness” (Romans 1:18).

That's right. We should be vigilant if we know that the judgments large and small, including the judgment of Noah's Flood, were not inflicted without cause. The same goes for the Holy Spirit.

“I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; if I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you, and he will come of sin, of righteousness, of judgment. He will rebuke the world” (John 16:7-8).

Therefore, when the Holy Spirit comes upon the sinner, he repents and becomes a new person.

everyone! Do not mistake the Lord's love for condoning injustice and condoning sin. Sinners who do not know repentance cannot escape the wrath of the Lamb even if they hide themselves in the mountains and hills on the day the Lord comes. It is an unacceptable and great sin to turn the temple of the Lord into a house of business and to turn it into a den of robbers. Therefore, we must always keep our body and mind holy by living a godly life.

“Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” (1 Corinthians 3) :16-17).

I hope that all of us will become saints who glorify God by sacrificing their bodies.

 

5. The zeal for your temple will consume me.

“The disciples remembered what the scriptures had said, ‘The zeal for your temple will devour me’” (verse 17).

These words mean that the Lord was prepared to make sacrifices and practiced according to the duty and mission entrusted to him.

everyone! How are we? How satisfied are you with the will of the Lord and how faithful you are to it? If the Lord's work is dictated by human prestige or pride, it will not live up to His expectations. Do you truly love the Lord? I pray that you will serve the Lord with all your life and become the saints who take the lead in cleaning up the body of the Lord, the Church.

 

6. Destroy This Temple

"Then the Jews answered and said to Jesus, What sign will you show us, that you do these things?" (verse 18).

“Because you are doing these things,” they said, “What sign will you show us?” without pointing out what is wrong with what the Lord is doing.

What evidence of faith can this give us? What can help our faith? saying that. If you want to be blessed, you must do what will be blessed. If you want to be favored, do what you want to do. If you want to receive a heavenly prize, please pledge your loyalty.

“Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” The Jews said, “It took forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days?” (19-20).

How can the truth be communicated when the conversation is blocked like this? The Lord spoke the truth of eternal life, but they were still accepting it as the words of the flesh.

“I have come to cast fire on the earth, and if it were already kindled, what would I want?” (Luke 12:49).

Not only the Jews, but also the unknown disciples.

“It was only after he was raised from the dead that the disciples remembered these words, and believed the scriptures and the words that Jesus had spoken” (verse 22).

What do you mean? The gospel of the Lord was heard in tongues before the resurrection. When was it said that the realization of perception was opened? In other words, “only after he was raised from the dead” means that he came to know this truth after the work of the descent of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost.

everyone! Is your truth still not heard in tongues? You must be blessed.

Paul woke up

The realized truth is our truth today. If you could give up worldly things like excrement, this is proof that you not only realized the eternal truth, but you also possessed it.

“The zeal for your temple will consume me.”

Lifting up the fire sword of righteousness, we pray that we too will become saints who purify the house of the Lord by eradicating worldliness and inertia. - Amen -
