영광을 얻을 때
요12:20-33
"명절에 예배하러 올라온 사람 중에 헬라인 몇이 있는데"(20절).
원문에는 "약간의 헬라인들"이라고 되어 있고, 시리아 역에는 "일부 이방인들"로 되어 있습니다. 그들에 대해서는 다음과 같은 견해가 있습니다.
1) 헬라에 살면서 헬라어를 사용하는 유대인들
2) 헬라인으로서 유대교로 개종한 자들
사도행전에는 에디오피아 여왕 간다게의 모든 국고를 맡은 내시를 비롯하여(행8:27), 백부장 고넬료(행10:1)와, 경건한 헬라인의 큰 무리가 이방인으로서 기독교로 개종한 자들(행17:4)이 있습니다. 그러한 예를 보아 구원은 혈통이 아닌 믿음으로 받는다는 사실을 알 수 있습니다.
1. 주님을 찾아온 헬라인들
"명절에 예배하러 올라온 사람 중에 헬라인 몇이 있는데 그들이 갈릴리 벳새다 사람 빌립에게 가서 청하여 이르되 선생이여 우리가 예수를 뵈옵고자 하나이다 하니"(20-21).
주님께서 예루살렘에 입성하실 때 많은 무리들이 "호산나 찬송하리로다 주의 이름으로 오시는 이여"(막11:9)하고 영광과 찬송을 돌렸다는 소문을 듣고 그들은 주님을 만나고자 하는 열망이 있었을 것입니다.
주님을 사모하는 마음이 귀중합니다. 주님을 보기 위해 뽕나무에 올라갔던 삭개오는 주님을 만났을 뿐 아니라 집으로 영접하여 복을 받게 되었습니다. 은혜를 사모하십시오. 주님은 우리의 중심을 보십니다.
"너희가 내게 부르짖으며 내게 와서 기도하면 내가 너희들의 기도를 들을 것이요 너희가 온 마음으로 나를 구하면 나를 찾을 것이요 나를 만나리라"(렘29:12-13).
어느 날 영국의 유명한 복음 전도자 워필드가 깊은 절망감에 사로잡혀 있을 때 신앙적으로 도움을 준 손길이 있었는데 헌팅 턴 여사입니다. 그는 이런 말을 했습니다.
"잃어버린 것을 감사하십시오. 그리스도는 잃은 자를 구원하시기 위해 이 땅에 오셨습니다. 바로 당신을 구하시기 위해서요" 그 말에 자극을 받은 워필드는 그 순간을 잃지 않고 주님께 간구하여 일생을 주님 위해 큰일을 할 수 있는 기회로 삼았습니다.
2. 영광을 얻을 때
"빌립이 안드레에게 가서 말하고 안드레와 빌립이 예수께 가서 여쭈니 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 인자가 영광을 얻을 때가 왔도다"(22-23).
먼저 생각할 것은 "때"에 관한 말씀입니다. "때"라는 것은 일반적인 시간이 아니라 특별한 시점을 의미하는 것입니다.
"범사에 기한이 있고 천하만사가 다 때가 있나니"(전3:1).
시간은 무한할지라도 기한은 끝이 있습니다. 우리는 또 연말을 맞게 됩니다. 이것은 한 해가 흘러갔다는 것입니다. 그렇다고 새해가 오지 않던가요?
"해는 뜨고 해는 지되 그 떴던 곳으로 빨리 돌아가고 바람은 남으로 불다가 북으로 돌아가며 이리 돌며 저리 돌아 바람은 그 불던 곳으로 돌아가고"(전1:5-6).
자연은 여상하다는 말씀입니다. 그렇게 변함없이 흘러가는 자연 속에서 때와 기한을 정하면 거기는 의미가 부여되는 것입니다. 자연을 관찰해보십시오. 만물의 영장인 인간은 무료하게 시간을 보내는 일이 있을지라도 자연은 그렇지 않습니다. 실의와 낙담에 처해있는 자들이라면 한 잎, 두 잎, 떨어지는 가을 낙엽을 밟으며 처량한 생각을 품게 되지만, 식물은 알차게 겨울 채비를 하고 있다는 사실을 알 수 있습니다. 꽃이 피고 새가 우는 봄이 오면 사람들은 자연을 즐깁니다. 그러한 시간에도 식물들은 봉접을 불러들여 열매 맺을 준비를 하는 것입니다. 이는 계절이 바뀌기 전에 기회를 잃지 않고 대처해 나가야 생존과 번식을 할 수 있기 때문입니다.
여러분! 기회를 잃지 마십시오. 밤이 가고 해가 뜨면 모든 사람이 자연적으로 희망의 새날이 오는 줄 생각해서는 안 될 것입니다. 오늘을 의미 있게 살아가는 사람만이 내일이 보장된다는 사실을 깨달아야 합니다.
"인자가 영광을 얻을 때가 왔도다"(23절).
주님께서 말씀하시는 영광은 세속적인 영광이 아니라 구원 사역의 완성을 뜻하는 것입니다. 주님은 져야 할 십자가가 고난과 죽음으로 끝나는 것이 아니라 승리의 부활로 영광의 입문이 되는 것입니다. 이 진리를 깨닫게 하기 위해 비유를 들어 말씀하고 계십니다.
"내가 진실로 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 한 알의 밀이 땅에 떨어져 죽지 아니하면 한 알 그대로 있고 죽으면 많은 열매를 맺느니라"(24절).
여기서 두 가지의 죽음을 생각할 수 있습니다. 땅에 떨어진 씨가 새싹을 내지 못하면 그대로 썩어지지만, 새싹을 내면 많은 결실을 얻게 된다는 것입니다. 거룩한 주님의 희생이 부활의 영광에 이르신 줄 알았다면 우리도 주의 이름으로 이 고난에 동참하여 부활의 영광에 이르기를 소원합니다.
"자기의 생명을 사랑하는 자는 잃어버릴 것이요 이 세상에서 자기의 생명을 미워하는 자는 영생하도록 보전하리라"(25절).
3. 천국에 들어갈 자
"사람이 나를 섬기려면 나를 따르라 나 있는 곳에 나를 섬기는 자도 거기 있으리니 사람이 나를 섬기면 내 아버지께서 그를 귀히 여기시리라"(26절).
우리가 천국에 들어가기 위해서는 어떻게 해야 하며, 또 존귀를 얻는 길이 무엇인지를 깨달아야 합니다.
"나를 섬기려면 나를 따르라" 이 말씀이 중요합니다. 수많은 사람이 주님을 찾았으나 진정으로 주님을 섬기기 위해 찾는 자들은 그렇게 많지 않았습니다. 모두가 자신의 문제를 해결하기 위해 주님을 찾았을 뿐입니다.
오늘 우리의 신앙은 어떻습니까? 오직 주님을 섬기기 위해서 주님을 따르는 성도들이 되어야 하겠습니다. 어떠한 사람이 성숙한 믿음의 소유자일까요? 하나님의 뜻을 분별하고 그 뜻을 준행하는 사람입니다. 그러한 사람은 성공과 실패에 상관없이 범사에 감사하는 은혜를 힘입게 됩니다.
카네기 캘리언이 말입니다.
"실패는 하나님과 화해하는 구원의 일부이다."
그 이유는,
1) 사람의 유한성을 깨닫게 해준다.
2) 인생의 목표와 올바른 인생관을 재점검할 기회를 얻게 해준다.
3) 우리의 삶에 속죄의 필요성을 깨닫게 해준다.
4) 예수의 십자가가 주는 심오한 의미를 배울 수 있다.
5) 인간성을 되찾아 주고 실패의 인정과 수용으로 자유로워지기 시작한다.
"나를 따르라" 이 말씀은 주님께서 행하신 일을 그대로 실천하라는 말씀입니다. 더욱 중요한 것은 "나 있는 곳에 나를 섬기는 자도 거기 있으리니"라는 말씀입니다.
하나님의 나라는 어떤 자가 들어갈 수 있을까요? 주님을 섬기는 자들입니다. 그러므로 우리는 주님을 섬기기 위해 따르는 성도들이 되어야 하겠습니다.
4. 십자가의 고통과 하나님의 응답
"지금 내 마음이 괴로우니 무슨 말을 하리요 아버지여 나를 구원하여 이때를 면하게 하여 주옵소서 그러나 내가 이를 위하여 이 때에 왔나이다"(27절).
십자가는 장식품이 아닙니다. 주님을 따르는 길은 거룩한 희생의 길, 곧 죽음의 길입니다.
"아버지여 아버지의 이름을 영광스럽게 하옵소서 하시니 이에 하늘에서 소리가 나서 이르되 내가 이미 영광스럽게 하였고 또다시 영광스럽게 하리라"(28절).
최후까지 아버지의 이름을 영광스럽게 하기 위해 간구하신 주님의 기도에 유의해야 합니다. 중요한 것은 하나님의 이름을 영광스럽게 하기 위한 기도가 곧 주님을 영광스럽게 하는 기도로 응답을 받은 것같이 우리의 기도도 그렇게 해야 합니다. 그러므로 우리는 하나님의 나라와 그 의를 구할 때에 하늘의 영광이 땅에 넘치고, 주님의 이름을 높일 때에 우리를 존귀하게 하실 줄 믿습니다.
"내가 이미 영광스럽게 하였고 또 다시 영광스럽게 하리라"(28절).
하나님의 응답은 과거에도 영광스럽게 하였지만 또 다시 영광스럽게 하리라는 말씀입니다.
"이미 영광스럽게 하였고"라는 말씀은 하나님께서 그리스도로 말미암아 이루신 모든 사역들을 의미합니다.
"또다시 영광스럽게 하리라" 이는 죽기까지 복종하신 주님께 부활의 영광과 모든 권세를 안겨주신 영광입니다(빌2:10-11).
"십자가 십자가 무한 영광일세 요단강을 건넌 후 무한 영광일세".
5. 하늘의 음성을 알지 못한 무리들
"곁에 서서 들은 무리는 천둥이 울었다고도 하며 또 어떤 이들은 천사가 그에게 말하였다고도 하니"(29절).
하나님은 천둥소리를 통해서도 역사하시고(출9:28; 삼하22:14; 시29:3), 천사를 통해서도 역사하십니다(히2:2, 갈3:19).
또 하나님께서는 다메섹 도상에서 거꾸러진 사울에게도 말씀하셨는데 함께 있던 무리들은 알아듣지 못했습니다.
사람의 말을 이성 없는 짐승이 알아듣지 못하는 것처럼 영적인 지각이 없는 사람도 하나님의 계시를 깨닫지 못하는 것입니다. 바로가 꿈을 꾸었으나 알지 못했고, 느부갓네살과 벨사살도 알지 못했습니다.
"예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 이 소리가 난 것은 나를 위한 것이 아니요 너희를 위한 것이니라"(30절).
여기서 우리는 "엘리 엘리 라마 사박다니"를 부르짖을 때 침묵하신 하나님의 뜻을 깨달아야 할 것입니다.
"이제 이 세상에 대한 심판이 이르렀으니 이 세상의 임금이 쫓겨나리라"(31절).
이 세상은 어둠의 주관자인 마귀의 세상입니다. 그리스도의 십자가는 대속의 죽음이요, 예수의 부활은 사망 권세의 심판입니다.
"내가 땅에서 들리면 모든 사람을 내게로 이끌겠노라"(32절).
그리스도 부활의 복음은 이방과 선민의 장벽을 무너뜨리고 만민에게 구원 길을 열어 주신 복음입니다.
"인자의 영광을 얻을 때가 왔도다" 과연 십자가는 고난의 극치요, 영광의 절정입니다. 오늘 그리스도의 십자가와 부활의 영광이 우리의 십자가와 영광이 되기를 기원합니다. - 아멘 -
When you get the glory
John 12:20-33
“There were some Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast” (verse 20).
The original text reads "a few Greeks" and the Syrian translation reads "some Gentiles". Here are my views on them:
1) Greek-speaking Jews living in Greece
2) Greek converts to Judaism
In the book of Acts, including the eunuch in charge of all the treasury of Gandage, queen of Ethiopia (Acts 8:27), the centurion Cornelius (Acts 10:1), and a great crowd of pious Greeks, Gentiles who had converted to Christianity (Acts 17: 4) is there. Such examples show that salvation is received by faith, not by blood.
1. Greeks who came to the Lord
“There were some Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast, and they went to Philip from Bethsaida in Galilee and asked him, “Teacher, we want to see Jesus” (20-21).
When the Lord entered Jerusalem, they must have been eager to meet the Lord when they heard the rumor that many people gave glory and praise, saying, “Hosanna to the one who comes in the name of the Lord” (Mark 11:9).
A heart that longs for the Lord is precious. Zacchaeus, who climbed a sycamore tree to see the Lord, not only met the Lord, but also received blessings by welcoming him into his home. Pray for grace. The Lord sees our heart.
“If you call on Me and come to Me and pray, I will hear your prayers; and if you seek Me with all your heart, you will find Me and you will find Me” (Jeremiah 29:12-13).
One day, when Warfield, a famous English evangelist, was in deep despair, there was a religious helping hand, Mrs. Huntington. He said this.
"Give thanks for what was lost. Christ came to this earth to save the lost. To save you." Stimulated by those words, Warfield did not lose the moment and prayed to the Lord to do great things for the Lord all his life. I took it as an opportunity to do it.
2. When You Get Glory
“Philip went and spoke to Andrew, and Andrew and Philip went to Jesus and inquired, and Jesus answered and said, The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified” (22-23).
The first thing to think about is the word “time”. By "when" we mean a specific point in time, not a general time.
“There is a season for everything, and there is a season for all things under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1).
Time is infinite, but deadlines are endless. We are approaching the end of the year again. This means that a year has passed. Didn't the new year come?
“The sun rises and the sun sets, but it returns quickly to where it came from, and the wind blows to the south and then to the north, and turns here and there, and the wind returns to where it came from” (Ecclesiastes 1:5-6).
It is said that nature is feminine. If you set a time and deadline in such an unchangingly flowing nature, meaning is given to it. Observe nature. Human beings, the lord of all things, may spend their free time, but nature is not. For those who are in despair and discouragement, stepping on a leaf, two leaves, and falling leaves in the autumn leaves you with dreary thoughts, but you can see that the plants are well-prepared for winter. When spring comes, when flowers bloom and birds sing, people enjoy nature. Even at such a time, the plants are preparing to bear fruit by inviting the buds. This is because survival and reproduction can only be achieved by coping with the opportunity before the seasons change.
everyone! Don't lose your chance. When the night passes and the sun rises, not everyone should think that a new day of hope will come naturally. Only those who live today meaningfully should realize that tomorrow is guaranteed.
“The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified” (verse 23).
The glory the Lord speaks of is not worldly glory, but the completion of the work of salvation. The cross that the Lord must bear does not end in suffering and death, but becomes the initiation of glory through the triumphant resurrection. To help us understand this truth, He is speaking with parables.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit” (verse 24).
Two deaths are conceivable here. If a seed that falls to the ground does not sprout, it will rot as it is, but if it sprouts, much fruit will be obtained. If we knew that the sacrifice of the holy Lord led to the glory of the resurrection, we hope that we too will participate in this suffering in the name of the Lord and reach the glory of the resurrection.
“He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for ever” (verse 25).
3. Those who will enter heaven
“If anyone wants to serve me, follow me; where I am, there will also be those who serve me; and if a man serves me, my Father will honor him” (verse 26).
In order to enter the kingdom of heaven, we must realize what we must do and how to obtain honor.
“If you want to serve me, follow me.” This phrase is important. Thousands of people sought the Lord, but there were not so many who truly sought to serve the Lord. Everyone just turned to the Lord to solve their problems.
What is our faith today? We must become believers who follow the Lord only to serve the Lord. What kind of person has a mature faith? A person who discerns the will of God and does it. Such a person will be blessed with the grace of gratitude in all things, regardless of success or failure.

“Failure is part of salvation, reconciliation with God.”
The reason is that,
1) It makes people realize the finiteness of a person.
2) It gives you an opportunity to reexamine your life goals and correct outlook on life.
3) It makes us realize the necessity of the Atonement in our lives.
4) You can learn the profound meaning of the cross of Jesus.
5) Regain humanity and begin to be freed by acknowledging and accepting failure.
“Follow me” These words mean to do what the Lord has done. More importantly, it says, “Where I am, there will be those who serve me.”
Who can enter the kingdom of God? Those who serve the Lord. Therefore, we must become followers of the Lord to serve the Lord.
4. The Pain of the Cross and God's Response
“Now, my heart is troubled, what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour, but for this I have come at this hour” (verse 27).
The cross is not an ornAment. The way to follow the Lord is the way of holy sacrifice, the way of death.
“Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven, saying, “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again” (verse 28).
We must heed the Lord's prayer, which he interceded to glorify the Father's name until the end. The important thing is that just as our prayers to glorify God's name have been answered as prayers to glorify the Lord, so should our prayers. Therefore, we believe that when we seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness, the glory of heaven abounds on earth, and when we exalt the name of the Lord, we will be honored.
“I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again” (verse 28).
God's answer is that he has glorified himself in the past, but he will glorify him again.
The phrase “already glorified” refers to all the works that God has accomplished through Christ.
“I will glorify you again” This is the glory of giving the glory of resurrection and all authority to the Lord who was obedient even to death (Philippians 2:10-11).

5. The crowd who did not know the voice of heaven
“Those who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered, and some said that an angel had spoken to him” (verse 29).
God works through the sound of thunder (Exodus 9:28; 2Sa 22:14; Ps 29:3) and through angels (Hebrews 2:2, Galatians 3:19).
God also spoke to Saul, who fell down on the road to Damascus, but the crowds that were with him did not understand.
Just as an irrational beast cannot understand a man's words, even a man without spiritual understanding cannot understand God's revelation. Pharaoh had a dream, but he did not know, Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar did not know.
"Jesus answered and said to them, "It was not for me that this voice was made, but for you" (verse 30).
Here we should realize the will of God who is silent when we cry out "Eli, Eli, Lama, Sabachthani."
“Now the judgment of this world has come, and the ruler of this world will be cast out” (verse 31).
This world is the world of the devil, the ruler of darkness. The cross of Christ is the atoning death, and the resurrection of Jesus is the judgment of the power of death.
“When I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men to me” (verse 32).
The gospel of Christ's resurrection is the gospel that broke down the barriers between the Gentiles and the chosen people and opened the way of salvation for all people.
“The time has come to gain the glory of the Son of Man.” Indeed, the cross is the culmination of suffering and the culmination of glory. May the glory of the cross and resurrection of Christ be our cross and glory today. - Amen -
